Does anyone know it the Skid plate that Toyota offers for the 05 Tacoma is worth it. I mean will work, or is it more for the pre-runner look?

Hmm...not sure about the 05 one since I don't an 05  Wink It definitely does make the truck stand out and it looks good but I'm not sure how durable and strong it is. Trying to think of someone who has one but nothing comes to mind  Undecided

It will not help all that much it is made of aluminum and not all that well supported.  It is better than the plastic it will cover though. I have also heard reports of it vibrating at high speeds and making noise.  Dont know for sure on all this cause I dont have one.  What are your plans for your truck?  If you are going to lift the truck once the suspension lifts hit the market I would just wait and buy an aftermarket plate.  I dont think anything Toyota is putting out for the 05 is all that trail ready.

Just my 2 cents

Crhannig, if you have plans on lifting it, I would wait until you get your lift put on to see what skid plate would look best with it. An aftermarket one would probably be a lot more useful than the TRD one.

hey,
Ive got one of those skid-plates and had zero vibration or noise. the other fellow is rite about the mounting of the thing, kinda weak maybe...But i think its good for kinda lite duty protection , looks cool and you can still get to your hooks. I think it is way stouter then the black sheet metal it goes over (not plastic)...As for cost ask your sales person at the dealership  if thy will sell you one at dealer cost.. mine did? i mounted mine under my waag brush/grill guard after some minor trimming, I'll post a few pics soon...
