I'm wondering what I should get for an exhaust, however, I don't want to pay for a full cat-back exhaust setup.  What I hope to gain out of it is primarily a deeper tone, horpsepower is always a plus too along with some looks.  I was thinking of going with a new factory exhaust (free), take out the factory muffler and put in say a Flowmaster 40 series and top it off with a polished tip for looks.  This will probably cost me around $100 but not sure of the end results.  Any suggestions?  Oh yeah, already did the deckplate mod and I like it  Tongue

Glad you like the deckplate mod, I bought my K&N intake just out of a catalog before I even knew what a deckplate mod was so I guess you can say I overpaid!

I did exactly what you're talking about doing. I installed a flowmaster 40 and a nice 3" angled tip on my Taco. Sounds a lot more beefy...I think the tip has a little bit to do with the sound as well. Mine costed 115 for the flowmaster, tip and install....not to shabby. Check out the video section and click on mine to get an idea of what it sounds like.

how did you like the deckplate mod? did you do a K&n to polish off the effect of the mod? if done right with the suppressor pluged and lower elbow it should sound real throaty around 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. although if you do the K&N filter, im sure you'll get more deeper sound out of it along with some extra MPG number increases. i did a full cat back on my tacoma when i had it and did a 3 inch with a 40 series flowmaster and oooooh mama was it nice!  Shocked oh, it only set me back 250 bux.... id save the little bit more and get it all done at once. belive me, you'll love it. everyone of my buddy's that have a tacome loved it and wondered why it sounded alot diffrent then their systems.... i guess it was the 3 inch diamiter. there was no power loss either on bottom end as people may expect or tell you. this is my personal experience.
