when I go off-road I like carrying my hi-lift jack, but i hate having it swim all over the bed.   so I came up with a redneck innovation for carrying it, and I must say it works great

A 1/2" carriage bolt that has a top/bottom formed to it (with ~20 strokes each with a file) fits perfectly in the bedrail slots.....sooo, i cut a couple of 2x4 to height, painted black, drilled and attached a fitted 1/2 carriage bolt
through each and cinched down with a lock washer and wing-nut.  I slotted the holes in the 2x4 to allow some
up/down adustment (tension) to the 2x4 where it touches bottom of bed.

Next I attached a hi-lift bumper mount to the 2x4s,   but this could be done with some 2x4 blocks as well,  and a few more 1/2 carriage bolts/wingnuts to hold the jack.

adjustable.   removable.   sturdy.   ~cheap.
