I found this mod (enabling the rear diff lock in any mode 2hi,4hi,4lo) interesting
http://www.yourtacoma.com/faq/index.php?sid=171496&lang=en&action=artikel&cat=5&id=7&artlang=en

I was wondering if anyone has done this and how it worked out?   I would probably add a single pole switch that had to be on, as a safety to prevent accidental engagement of the locker

works great, i did it on my 04 in 04 and no problems, i don't think you need to add a s/w just because you know not to engage it at hwy speeds and i've never accidently hit the locker s/w.

I wouldn't bother with an extra switch either.

LOL ok I might be inclined to do something like that in that case.

OK I got this done,  but not without turning the first relay into a 'voltage to smoke' converter ;(
I got a radio shack 10A DPDT relay (#275-0218) for $9,   the wiring diagram was worn off the package, so I 'assumed' a few things.....FFWD - Relay #2 had a good diagram, and luckily the ECU wasnt damaged on the first attempt.

so using a radio shack 10A DPDT Relay #275-0218, the following pinout configuration worked for me:

Position  Wire [note] (action)
1           lt. Grn/blk  (cut)
2,3        violet [power] (tap)
4           pink (cut)
5           lt. grn (cut)
6           lt. blue (cut)
7           red/blk [coil] (cut)
8           white/blk [coil] [ground] (tap)
