I have a 99 toyota tacoma 4x4 3.4 liter sr5 package and recently I Replaced the front o2 sensor. After the swap out my truck has absolutely no power. Thinking that it might be a bad one that I just purchased, i replaced it with the old one still no power. How can a simple o2 swap cause all of this. Al tho when i went to take the old one off for the first time i did notice that one of the nuts that holds it on has completely decentigrated and so i purchased a new nut to replace the two that were already on there. still no luck any advice is appreciated.

well i went ahead and stuck the new one in just to leave it. I cleared the code and am going to wait and see if another comes up. In the mean time im going to change the spark plugs. also i did the deck plate mod about a month or so ago do you think it might have something to do with it? cleaned the maf sensor with rubbing alcohol got the gunk off of it. pops is old fashioned and thinks that its the whole i cut in my air box giving my pcm false readings, causing my problems. but thanks for the info any more help is appreciated

i know that the newer o2 sensors are really called an air/fuel sensor and they had a problem with the listings for awhile at the parts store, they are different and can't be used in place of a a/f sensor, but it should have ran ok when you put the one one back in....i would pull the sensor off then start the truck to see if the cat is plugged or not, with the sensor off it will be able to breath.

I doubt the deck plate mod is causing the trouble since most of us have done it with no problems but, you could duct tape over the hole and see if it makes a difference. I agree with my mechanic and think you have a seperate unrelated issue....timing belt, fuel filter, something like that.

hey guys you dont know how much i apricate the help! But i think that i just stumbled upon whats been going on. after yesterday when i ran sea foam through my truck i noticed that it started running slugish again. Today a thought hit me while sitting at my I.T. help desk job, what if the vacume hose had dryrot or a leak this could be causing my lack of power? when i sea foamed my truck we took the vacume hose off (which came off way to easy) to clean the engine, after there was a loss of power. so today i went to my local autozone and bought a new hose and clamps, put it on, and it feels like it has more power than ever before. Cleared the code and still hasnt come on. just keeping my fingers crossed and hopping. Thanks again for all the input ideas and help. If anyone needs anything feel free to contact me.
