I have an 02 Toyota Tacoma TRD and my rear electric locker is slow to engage and disengage.  When I press the button to engage the locker, the indicator light flashes for 1 to 5 minutes before it stays on indicating that the locker is finally engaged.  When I want to disengage the locker, it can take a couple of minutes before the light goes out.   I've had this truck for one year and initially the locker was OK, but for the last couple of months it's been a problem.  Anybody have any ideas on what the solution might be to this problem?  Thanks for any input.  Jim

I was hoping someone else would jump in here.

My 01 is pretty slow too but I've never been to concerned with it. It helps sometimes to back up a little when you disengage. I usually just pull forward a few inches if it doesn't immediatly engage and most of th time it clicks right in. I'm not aware of any bulletins on this so I'm not sure if it's really a problem or just a pain in the butt. I've just learned to live with it.

My truck doesnt have the locker on it but takes a little for my 4 wheel to disengage. Like he said if i back up first a couple feet it does so just fine.

I have a ‘03 and I have found that if I inch forward or backward and turn the wheel slightly that it will engage quickly. Use the same process for disengaging.
