" TOYS " for all ages!!!

WWW
« on: October 20, 2005, 07:37:12 pm »

I was looking threw a NWOR magazine with my friend Joe this evening and remembered that there was a old school toyota pickup in there with 4 doors. when did this happen ? I dont care how I would love to own one of those. I know the caption said it was from Hawaii, but other than that nothing much about the truck. Just the performance parts that were added to the truck.

Did I really miss a time of the toyota pickup 4 door? I'm sad now!!!!

4 door compacts have been all over the world since the 80's, but they did not show up until the year 2000 in the U.S. (not allowed?  Huh?) I need to look into that. Because there is no such thing as a pre-2000 4-door compact or 1/2 ton here in the states that I know of, but when 2000 hit, every manufacturer had one on the lots.

Not entirely sure why either but, that is about the time that all the major car manufacturers started making the crew cabs in the medium size trucks.

I like this...having something that makes everyone think. Lets get to the bottom. It may have been a totally custom truck, but still awsome non the less.

The truck has a short bed and everything.

Yeah, prob a Hilux someone had imported. The Hilux is still the "kick horse" around the world. Friend of mine who was over here from Germany a few years ago, loved my Tacoma and he said pickups are picking up in popularity even in Europe. They are now dressing them up a little to market them for everyday use, and not just commercial use, which is what most Europeans think of when using a pickup.

Here is the Hilux in Germany. As you can see, it definitely is more now than just a work horse truck, but has some of the "bells and whistles" we have on our Tacomas. YES, AND THEY CAN GET IT IN DIESEL!!!!!!

Oh yeah, the Specs..and for those who knew me as Allradcoma....see if you can find the word in the specs. Click on double cab, SOL.

the 4 door cabs were available in the rest of the world since the early 80's. i belive they came out in 82' but dont quote me. i think ive read this before somewhere but they never came into existance in the U.S due to safety standards in the 4dr. i think the integrity of the sides were to weak to sustain heavy side impacts. also, due to the cargo area in the bed being very small. it was too little room to introduce in the U.S where the market required a large or long bed. it was barely lucky enough to have some, (not many) diesel models introduced in the U.S.

well yeah! I mean. That truck would work for everything. I know it doesn't have any bed space. I just like being different and that thing would serve that purpose exactly!!!!
