Does anybody have experience changing rear axle seals? Is it something I could do?

take your drum, brake line and p/b cable off, 4 bolts behind the wheel flange pull the axelshaft out and the seal is in the tube, so... yes you can do it Grin

That's what I thought but the manual makes it sound more complicated than that.

it's really not but the dealer recommends replacing the wheel bearing also just because the grease may get washed out and cause a problem later, you can do the bearing while you have it out but you need two locking rings the bearing and the outter seal. the old stuff would need to be cut off and the new pressed on.. your local auto parts store should be able to do it for you.
