I was wondering about disabling the SRS system.  I have a 9000 lb winch up front and was wondering about the possiblities of setting the system off while winching.  Can this happen?  If so....how would I go about disableing the system?  can the drivers side airbag be wired into the disarming swith for the passengers side?  My truck is a 2002 Tacoma Ext. cab.  I would appreciate any input on this topic.

I don't think you'd have any problems when winching....messing with the air bags can be a bit tricky.

don't try to do it, just winching won't cause the bag to blow, guys that snow plow don't have a problem, you would have to crunch the frame to set it off

I have completely removed the entire system all together. If you have a reg cab there just isn't enough room for you and a deployed airbag. I met a guy that had a reg cab was in a fender bender in a strip mall parking lot the bag deployed and this guy ended up with a broken jaw shattered cheek bone and almost lost an eye. When he showed me his pics the next day I started taken out the system. I DO NOT RECOMEND DOING THIS!!! unless your rig is a trail only rig if you drive on the streets. My rig as of Nov. is a trail only rig.

Do not splice into any wiring harness for airbags it will mess up the computer for the system.Any harness that is in a yellow cover should never be disturbed.

3 CAT scans an MRI and some time with the shrink. It's confirmed. I'm just not right in the head.

Thanks alot for the input guys.  My truck isn't for  "trail only".  It is also my daily driver.  I just wasn't too sure about setting it off winching, and as for on the trail....I would rather have a $1000 dollars of "accidental" (if you consider tailriding damage accidental lol) damage, than the damage and airbag deployment.  Thanks again!

Here's something you can do to prevent the airbag deploying when off-roading.
remove the lower center console this will give you access to the computer. Then just unplug all the connectors just make sure your key is in the off position. your airbag light will be on but they can't deploy.

Well, my first time up at Silver Lake I drove my bumper straight into a sand dune. My air bag didn't deploy and it was a fairly solid hit. I too was worried before that happened but not anymore. It CAN"T be deployed during winching anyway, only with a frontal collision. Even a rollover won't do it (don't ask me how I know) and, like Dan said, guys that plow snow don't have a problem..
