Customize Your Tacoma's Keyless Entry System

The only annoyance I had when I bought my new double cab was the keyless entry system. I did not like the way the truck went "beep beep" when you unlocked the doors nor did I like how you had to press unlock twice to get all four doors to unlock.

Soon I found that both of my complaints could be fixed very easily and at no cost!

Removing the Piezo Speaker:

First that "beep beep" had to go, the easiest way to do this is to simply remove the piezo speaker.

It is located under the hood to the right of the battery compartment. Simply disconnect it and stash it or throw it way or whatever you want to do with it. Now whenever you unlock your doors all you hear is the door locks clicking.

Programming All Doors To Unlock At One Time:

These instructions are taken from the Toyota RS3200 System Manual (which they don't give you if you don't have the full alarm)

(You'll need to complete all of these steps within 40 seconds or it will not program)

-Open the Drivers Door
-Remove Key From Ignition
-Insert Key Into Ignition Twice (In, Out, In, Out)
-Close the Driver's Door Twice--Remember, it should be open! (Close, Open, Close, Open)
-Insert Key In and Out of Ignition Once (In, Out)
-Close the Driver's Door Twice--It should be open! (Close, Open, Close, Open)
-Insert Key Into Ignition but do not remove it!
-Close the Driver's Door
-Turn the Key from Lock to On 4 Times (Lock, On, Lock, On, Lock, On, Lock, On)
-After the locks stop, remove the key from the ignition switch

On your key fob you will need to press and relase both the 'Lock' and 'Unlock' buttons simultaneously.

Then simply press and release the 'Unlock' button and open the driver's door. That's it. All doors should unlock now the first time you press unlock. If not, try it again, it took me a couple of times to get it programmed.

Note: If you would like to return to driver's door unlock then unlock all doors you need to follow the same procedure except press the 'Lock' button instead of the 'Unlock' button in the last step.

Setting Your Door Locks to Lock/Unlock Automatically

Although I do not particularly care for this feature there are some people who might, especially if they are coming from another vehicle that locked/unlocked the doors automatically.

Your Tacoma can be programmed to do this as well. Whenever the key is turned on, the doors will automatically lock, and will unlock when the key is turned back to lock.

Again, you will have to complete these steps within 30 seconds for the programming to work:

-Open the Drivers's Door
-Remove Key From Ignition (Out)
-Insert Key Into Ignition (In)
-Close the Driver's Door Twice--Remember, it should be open! (Close, Open, Close, Open)
-Turn the Key from Lock to On 5 Times (Lock, On, Lock, On, Lock, On, Lock, On, Lock, On)

-Finally close the driver's door and turn the ignition key to 'Lock'. Your locks should now be automatic. If they are not, try again. To reverse this programming simply close the drivers door twice (Close, Open, Close), and leave it closed in the last step.
